? Miami Mayor Manny Diaz has been elected chairman of the advisory board of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, putting him in line to be the group's president for the term beginning in 2008. The conference is a lobbying and support organization of the 1,139 U.S. cities with populations greater than 30,000.
? Army Gen. Bantz J. "John" Craddock, chief of Miami's U.S. Southern Command, has been named NATO's Supreme Allied Commander, Europe. He also has been nominated to serve as chief of the U.S. European Command, which oversees U.S. military activity in 92 nations.
